Wines from the Vic-Bilh
Between Gascon valleys and the beginning of the Pyrenees ...
Madiran and Pacherenc wine
On the borders of three departments, the Gers, the Atlantic-Pyrenees and the High-Pyrenees, the vineyards share the hillsides with maize and corn fields, and oak and chestnut woods.
The clay and chalky soils are ideal for red grape varieties which produce the Madiran red wine.
Clay and siliceous soils are favoured for white grape varieties which produce dry or mellow Pacherenc wines. |

The encépagement (is the French term used for the assortment of grape varieties planted on a particular property) of the Madiran is Tannat for structure, to which Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon is associated for suppleness, bouquet and smoothness, and Pinenc for the fruit flavouring.
The Pacherenc of Vic Bilh is a blend of six grape varieties: Arrufiat, Courbu, Gros and Petit Manseng, Sauvagnon, and Sémillon.
